Ring. Ring. Ring.
You’ve reached the offices of We Can’t Be Bothered to Pick Up the Phone. If this is a life-threatening emergency, please hang up and call 9-1-1. Press 1 for an appointment. Press 2 for prescription refills. Press 3 to speak with a nurse. Press 4 for directions to our office. Press 5, 6, 7, or 8 for anything else you may think of.
Geez, remind me again why I was calling.
Trying to get through to someone on the telephone today is exasperating. It’s absolutely ludicrous when calling a physician’s office and nearly suicidal when attempting to return merchandise. Why must we be routed halfway around the world in order to answer a simple question?
Right…I’m ranting and speaking to the choir.
A Direct Hotline to God
Have you ever thought about the remarkable privilege of prayer? We have direct, immediate, unfettered access to God. No navigating the large voice recording menu, no irritating transfer to the other side of the planet, and no need to figure out which button you were supposed to press. Just close your eyes, mention His name, and there He is…waiting for you!
I’m not exactly sure why I’m still amazed by the ever-open arms of God but I am. His love for me (for us) is so infinite that it can be, at times, underestimated and taken for granted. Our Father covets a relationship with us which, in and of itself, is astounding.
Maybe you’re like me in that there are days when I spend precious, little time with God. Just too busy. Just too tired. Just an excuse.
It’s during those times when I’ve wondered whether God still has His eyes on me or if He’s heard my pleas. How ’bout you?
I Know I’m Not Alone
My cousin and I recently had a conversation wherein we shared those exact feelings. We both know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God is in control of our situations and that His answer is just around the corner. BUT we also joked that once in a while we feel like giving God a shout-out to remind Him we’re still here and still waiting! Joking? Maybe.
When those thoughts assail my mind, I’m comforted by so many of God’s promises. I came across this scripture the other day which assures me that He is indeed listening, watching, and loving.
“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer.” 1 Peter 3:12
The next time you talk to God, thank Him for the privilege of prayer. Close your eyes, mention His name, and there He’ll be…waiting for you!
Be a blessing,
